Dvur Kralove Zoo, Czech, is to ship another endangered black rhino to Mkomazi, Tanzania

The Dvur Kralove Zoo is to donate its young black rhino female Eliska to the Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary in the Mkomazi National Park in Tanzania. The agreement has been made by the zoo director Premysl Rabas and renowned conservationist Tony Fitzjohn who runs Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary. Eliska will be transferred to the same sanctuary to which three black rhinos were shipped from the zoo in 2009.

Zoo Detective Quiz at Dvůr Králové

Till 31 March you can take part in Zoo Detective Quiz at Dvůr Králové. You can take the Zoo Detective worksheet at the cash desk of the main zoo entrance. The worksheet is free of charge.
It will last about one hour and you will enjoy the zoo very much during spring time :-).
You can ask for result sheet at the Gallery Primeval Ages by Zdeněk Burian´s Eyes or at the main zoo entrance.
The zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Elephant Bull Kito is Eleven

We celebrated on 7 December 2013 the eleventh birthday party of African Elephant bull Kito. Zoo employees of the nutrition and zoology department prepared a birthday (fruit-vegetables) cake for Kito´s enrichment. He was born on 6th December 2002 in Colchester Zoo in England; his mother Tanya (wild caught) delivered him after artificial insemination by semen of an elephant bull Tembo (wild caught in Zambia). When transported from Colchester Zoo (June 2009) he weighed 2450 kg, now he weighs about 4 550 kilograms. Two females (Umbu-32 years, Sally-31 years) helped Kito with eating the birthday cake :-)

During December and January, around Christmas time, the zoo is decorated beautifully and lit up in the evenings. You may visit all tropical animal houses and then you should feel the chill. Opening hours remain regular, and you can even benefit from discounted entrance fees.

ZOO Dvůr Králové - the world record - 250th baby giraffe was born on December 2, 2013

250th baby giraffe was born on 2 December in Dvur Kralove Zoo. It is the world record. Please see photos in attachment.
Orangutan Caring Week 10.11.2013

We will celebrate on 10 November 2013 the third birthday party of orang utan baby. Employee of the nutrition and zoology department and basic schools leaded by Mgr. Jana Rehorova will prepare a fruit cake, present and enrichment for birthday female Tessa. She was born on 13th November 2010; her mother ‘s name is Zaneta. She is living in the World of Birds pavilion together with her mother.
Halloween week

runs from October 26 and lasts until November 3. Children and adults are sure to get spooked by the many pumpkin lanterns and other devilish decorations. Why not take a minute or two to make your own?
