Houses and exhibits

Let us take you on a virtual tour of the zoo. Before you actually arrive, please view what is waiting there for you and what is unmissable. For example, sample the sweet air in the Primate House. We are not kidding; some monkeys really do smell good! Hearing the trumpeting of an excited elephant should be near the top of your list.

Summer enclosures

Summer enclosures

You must have witnessed these scenes when watching natural history programmes on TV: vast herds of wildebeest, antelopes, zebras and other hoofed creatures roaming the savannah, gathering near watering holes and crossing rivers…

The Carnivore House

The Carnivore House

With their acute senses, lithe bodies and elegance, carnivores have always had the power to attract. A running cheetah is one of the most impressive sights in the wild. By the way, one favoured activity by lions is lazing under trees, and this goes for the king of the jungle at the zoo. We can assure you it is quite normal.

The Walk-through Aviary

The Walk-through Aviary

Step inside this cosy home to birds. To your left is the living room (the trees), the kitchen (the pond to your right) and bedroom (the banks of the pond). Take your time to get familiarised with the birds, which may be seen in the wild fluttering around ponds and rivers throughout the country.

The Tropical Swamp House

The Tropical Swamp House

Watch out! There is a man falling into a pool of mud, his head dropping under the surface. He reaches out and tries to grab hold of something to hold onto. All the while, his frantic efforts to survive are being observed by an elegant cattle egret. Sadly, nothing as dramatic as this will be going on in the Swamp House, except for the docile behaviour of an egret - one of its inhabitants.

Bird World

Bird World

Have you ever experienced bird wings whirring in the air around you? Well, it is very easy to do so by entering Bird World. This unique building allows you to pass through savannah and tropical forest, always surrounded by variegated birds in all directions. Incidentally, a bird walking on the leaves of a water plant floating on the surface is no trick. It is all in a day's work for the wattled jacana.

Dinosaur World

Dinosaur World

Failing to extract dinosaur DNA from a Mesozoic mosquito as they did in Jurassic Park, we thought it a good idea to at least create an exhibit featuring thirteen life-sized dinosaur models, including the cuddly Tyrannosaurus rex.

The Flamingo House

The Flamingo House

An introduction to these charming birds is not necessary. Just stand back and enjoy these most elegant of creatures.

The Walk-through Pelican Aviary

The Walk-through Pelican Aviary

Be sure to take your rod, bait and net when going fishing. However, should you pass a pelican en route, there is a fair chance that it will find all that tackle rather amusing. Pelicans have it easy, as all they need to do is dip their heads under the water and scoop up lots fish into their special sack-like beaks.

Water World

Water World

Completely different, but still very similar to dry land in many regards, it is here where you can learn about life under lakes, rivers and seas. The house's atmosphere is that of tropical rainforests, and it houses creatures living under the water or bound to an aquatic habitat. Besides them, you can meet various reptile and primate species. When strolling around the zoo, be sure to explore the fascinating world of coral reefs and tropical river pools.

The African Savannah

The African Savannah

Set out on foot through the African savannah side by side with the largest creatures that inhabit dry land: the African elephants. This house replicates one of the world's most glorious habitats. Besides the elephants, the premises also contain other creatures: weavers, birds often seen in the savannah, and hyraxes, the closest relatives of the elephant. All the exhibits here have been designed to resemble the animals' original habitats with artificial and real trees, rocks and stones.

The Pygmy Hippo House

The Pygmy Hippo House

Is the pygmy hippo just a baby hippo? No, it is not. It is a relative of the larger hippo, not a young hippo. After all, we could not call it the pygmy hippo house if the little hippos became not so little. Enter the exhibit and you will find an African rainforest, the creature's natural habitat.

The Okapi House

The Okapi House

If you are a Czech-speaking visitor, you may be a bit confused as the name for the creatures in this house sounds much like the word for eaves in Czech. But take a look inside and you will find a most unique mammal - the okapi.

The Lion Tamarin House

The Lion Tamarin House

No need to fear! There are not any lions big or small waiting for you inside. Be brave and step inside to enjoy something completely different: the playful antics of distant relatives. You can view two small clawed monkey species running around in the branches in this small copy of a South American tropical rainforest: lion tamarins and marmosets.

The Primate House

himps, gorillas, orangutans; our closest relatives. No, not family as in aunts and uncles, but in terms of evolution. You may know that 98 % of human genes are identical to those of chimps. Watching the great apes for a while, you may find many behavioural patterns in common with man, such as dining.

The Meerkat House

The Meerkat House

While on your way to the summer enclosures, remember to say hello to the meerkats - small carnivores from the mongoose family.

The Lion House

The Lion House

Even before you reach the safari bus departure point, no matter if you walk or take the sight-seeing train, you must have an audience with the king of the jungle. No reservation needed!
