Water World

Water World

Completely different, but still very similar to dry land in many regards, it is here where you can learn about life under lakes, rivers and seas. The house's atmosphere is that of tropical rainforests, and it houses creatures living under the water or bound to an aquatic habitat. Besides them, you can meet various reptile and primate species. When strolling around the zoo, be sure to explore the fascinating world of coral reefs and tropical river pools.

A brief history

This house is based around an older building that contained terraria dating from 1964. In the mid-1980s, the nature of the exhibits began to change, with some of the lesser terraria in the main hall being redesigned to form the tropical river display. This is a complex of seven interconnected freshwater pools of various sizes holding tropical fish and reptile species. Currently, the tropical river display is the oldest exhibit in this house, as the rest were updated in 1998 - 2000. The fully reconstructed house was re-opened on 19th July 2000.
