Rare species bred: secretary bird

We can announce the first breeding success in the case of secretary birds within the Czech Republic. In addition, the two young 'serpent eaters' present the only two young within European collections this year.
New Persian leopard cubs

Deina, the Persian leopard female, has put a smile on all of our zookeepers by delivering three healthy and beautiful cubs on the morning of 24 February. There was some concern over the mother as she had experienced some health problems last year. Although she seemed to be okay during her pregnancy, no one was sure if everything would go well. However, the cubs were born between 6 and 8.15 a.m., with their trouble-free birth being monitored via CCTV.
Agent 007 has got a new friend

What has a dog got to do with James Bond? Well, the secret agent has a namesake at Dvůr Králové Zoo - an African wild dog, no less - a beautiful and colourful African canine. It arrived from Britain, and No. 7 is its house name in the family tree. So what else could we have called it? Introducing James Bond, Agent 007, in short: James!
First hatch of miniature agama lizards

A body of fifteen centimetres, including a tail, bulbous head and enormous eyes. This is exactly how the young Chinese water dragons looked when they hatched. In fact, they are the first ever to be bred in the history of Dvůr Králové Zoo, which happened on 9 February 2009. They can now be admired by visitors in a separate terrarium in the Water World house.
No love for orang-utans

Introducing the experienced male Elmar to Satu, a young female, should have been a fairly straightforward process for Dvůr Králové Zoo. It was expected that Elmar would enter the house in which Satu had been placed after arriving from the UK, and that they would fall for each other instantly. Afterwards, the pair were meant to enter a designated indoor facility. But things didn’t exactly go to plan – with animals you can never tell!
Numa and Nova en route to Lisbon

Two Indian rhinos from Dvůr Králové Zoo set off for a long journey to Lisbon Zoo, Portugal, on Friday, 13 March 2009. Loaded onto a truck, these huge and stately creatures are now en route, and will travel 2,869 km in total. All being well, the animals should arrive on Sunday, after some 60 hours on the road.
Golden lion tamarins triumph again

We are proud to report that two more young have been born to the breeding pair of golden lion tamarinds at Dvůr Králové Zoo. As these primates are very rare and now at the brink of extinction in the wild, this is not only a unique breeding success but also a significant contribution to their conservation.

Regal pigeons’ new arrival

We have managed to breed the young of one of the most world’s attractive pigeons, the rare Victoria crowned species. Thanks to our CCTV system, every visitor can monitor how the bird is doing.
Satu settles in

In the early morning on 13 February, a Bornean orang-utan female called Satu arrived. The ape managed the long haul from Twycross Zoo, Great Britain, without any trouble and set about exploring her new home right away.
