50th Baby Rhino Born In Dvur Kralove Zoo

On Saturday 8th September 2012 in the afternoon, Dvur Kralove Zoo’s 50th baby rhino was born. Mother and baby are fine.
The baby is female and is it a 38th Black Rhino born in our zoo. Mother is Etosha (born 4.9.2006 in our zoo) and father is Davu (born 19.2.2006 in Krefeld, Germany). Baby girl is Etosha’s first one, Davu is a father for a second time. The pregnancy lasted for 445 day and the delivery was quick without any complications and mother is taking good care of her offspring. At birth, baby girl’s weigh was 29kg, which is normal, and singe then she is gaining about 1 kg per day.
Dvur Kralove Zoo is one of the most successful breeders of rhinos in the world. In total, the were born 38 Black Rhinos, 9 White Rhinos and 3 Indian Rhinos in Dvur Kralove Zoo. In 1976 the first rhino was born in Dvur Kralove Zoo and since then, there were 50 rhinos born here, 18 males and 32 females.
